Livelihood and Soft Skills Training for Women
Female entrepreneurs who collaborate with us are given livelihood and soft skills training to better equip them to deal with the business world. They are given the opportunity to participate in financial literacy trainings, basic accounting trainings and language courses etc. Women may also request skills trainings that may range from sewing classes, know how on animal husbandry and anything else in between.
Education for Children
A & A Collaborative Fund firmly believes in every child’s right to a proper education. Towards this the company supports students through various activities including the provision of stationery packs, school uniforms and shoes and scholarships for needy students. A&A also supports needy schools by donating state of the art science lab equipment, computers etc.
Developing Agri Based Tourism
At A&A we believe in encouraging pluri-activity amongst those who collaborate with us. Pluri-activity encourages entrepreneurs and producers to engage in multiple income generating activities which in turn increases their resilience to shocks. One such venture encouraged by A&A is agri-based tourism where we encourage collaborators who are farmers to offer uniquely Sri Lankan experiences to tourists on their farms. For instance, this may include traditional meals cooked with vegetables from the farm, served on a simple banana leaf.
Leadership Training for Youth
As the old adage goes the youth truly are the future of a nation. At A&A we try our best to equip the youth of today to be responsible leaders of tomorrow. A&A has developed several courses geared to instill leadership qualities in teenagers and young adults. These courses follow principles espoused by world renowned trainers and educators and are offered in all three languages.
Financial and Resource Support for Female Entrepreneurs
Many female entrepreneurs lack the financial support required to begin their entrepreneurial journey. A&A provides them with not only financial support but also the raw materials and resources that they require to begin or expand their business. With the support extended by A&A these women go on to become independent bread winners and successful business women in their respective societies.
Clean Water for Rural Villages
Several of our collaborators from villages in the North and East of Sri Lanka do not have access to clean drinking water. The water in the North and East is often considered to be “hard water” as it has a high content of calcium and other minerals. Unfit for drinking, our collaborators have no choice but to drink and use “hard water” daily as it is too costly to purchase bottled water for their daily use. A&A hopes to support these villages in the North and East by supplying them with reverse osmosis plants, that will purify the water they use and make it fit for consumption.
Child and Mother Care Health and Nutrition Drives
Grass root level communities struggle to make ends meet, especially in the face of crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn. Understanding the difficulties that poor families face, this initiative seeks to support mothers and children to maintain adequate nutrition and health through the provision of dry ration packs and home cooked meals. In the long run, A&A hopes to build crèches within the village to support mothers and children.
Improving Housing
Several rural households lack basic comforts and necessities such as clean toilets. Other houses are several years old and in desperate need of repairs. A&A hopes to support needy families to improve their standard of living by supporting them to either repair parts of their house that have fallen in to disrepair or by helping them to add on new sections to their homes.
Equipment and Technology for Food Production
Food production forms the back bone of self-sufficiency. Collaborating with several farmers across the country A&A hopes to assist farmers to obtain better equipment and technology to improve their output. We hope to assist farmers in procuring tractors, grain sorters and other such state of the art technology that will help them to increase their productivity and output.
